0.5 Cubic Foot Bag (Between 9-15 pounds, depending on moisture content.)
Good Sweet Earth's Raw Biochar is a natural soil amendment that improves soil health, structure and fertility. The carbon in the biochar creates a perfect home for microorganisms to thrive in your soil. The porous nature of the biochar also helps retain water, making your soil more drought-resistant. Best of all, the biochar remains in the soil for hundreds of years! The source we use is certified 97% bio-based by the USDA.
Usage: As a soil amendment, we recommend 2-3 cups of biochar per square-foot of garden space, or 2-3 cups per pot. Healthy soil should have 5-10% biochar for the purpose of nutrient retention and healthy bacterial growth.
Biochar needs to be "activated" before mixing with soil-- combine equal parts biochar and any type of completed compost (like vermicompost), apply water until saturated and let the mixture set for 10-14 days. This will inoculate the biochar; failure to inoculate/activate biochar before adding to soil will draw nutrients from your soil and stunt plant growth. One bag of our Raw Biochar (0.5 cubic feet) can be inoculated with one bag of our Living Worm Compost, or about 15 pounds of any other composted material. Read more about Raw Biochar here.
